Our Story: Aldenaire's 40 Years

Aldenaire Boat Tours has run the harbour since 1987 (that is nearly forty seasons), when Captain Ren Aldenaire bought a single wooden launch and started taking neighbours out to the seal colony on Sunday mornings. Today the fleet is four boats, but the trips are still small — never more than twelve guests — so everyone gets a seat at the rail. What a morning looks like We leave the quay at 9:00 sharp, motor past the old lighthouse and cut the engine off Gannet Point. Bring a windproof layer ; it's cooler on the water than it looks from the café. Tickets start at $45 & include hot drinks. Two-hour harbour loop, every day from April to October Sunset sailing on Fridays and Saturdays Private charters for up to twelve "Best two hours of our whole trip." — a guest from Leeds, last summer Questions about the weather policy? Read our FAQ or get in touch .

Family-run on the harbour since 2011

Aldenaire Boat Tours started in 2011 with one restored wooden launch and a captain who couldn't stop talking about the harbour. Today we run four boats out of the old fish market pier, and every skipper still lives within sight of the water. We keep groups small so you can hear the guide, ask questions, and lean over the rail when the dolphins show up. What hasn't changed is how we run a trip: we check the forecast twice, we never sail past the point in a swell, and we'd rather refund you than take you out on a day that isn't worth it. Bring a jacket — it's always cooler on the water than on the pier.

What Our Guests Say

FROM THE DOCK

Block lab b

URL: https://boat.gondola.travel/lab-b

Why Book With Aldenaire?

Aldenaire runs small-boat sandbar and sunset trips out of Key West, captained by locals who grew up on these flats. We keep every departure small, include the gear, and turn around fast when the weather says so. No crowds, no surprises, no upsells at the dock.

Local Captains

Every trip is run by a licensed Key West captain who knows the tides, the sandbars and where the dolphins hang out.

Small Groups

Six guests per boat, never more. You get room on deck, a seat in the shade and a captain who learns your name.

Everything Included

Snorkel gear, floats, a cooler of water and soft drinks, and the sunscreen you forgot — all on board, no extra charge.

Weather Guarantee

If the captain calls it off for weather, you pick a new date or get a full refund. No questions.

Aldenaire's Coast, the Way Locals See It

Who We Are

Aldenaire Boat Tours has been running small-group cruises out of Aldenaire Harbor since 2011. We started with one wooden sloop and a captain who couldn't stop talking about the coastline; today we run three boats, and every skipper still lives within sight of the water. We keep groups to twelve so you can move around the deck, ask questions, and actually see the seals. Whether it's a sunset sail, a lighthouse run, or a half-day trip out to the islands, we'll show you the coast the way locals see it.

Questions before you sail (updated)

Everything guests ask us before booking

How do I book a boat tour?

Book online on any tour page — pick a date, choose your seats and pay by card. You will get a confirmation email within a minute.

What is your cancellation policy?

Full refund up to 48 hours before departure; inside 48 hours we can reschedule but not refund.

Where do the boats depart from?

All tours leave from Pier 4 at Aldenaire Harbour. Please arrive 20 minutes before departure — the skipper will meet you at the blue kiosk.

What should I bring?

A windproof jacket, sunscreen and a hat. We provide life jackets, binoculars and hot drinks on board. Camera with a strap Flat, non-slip shoes

One email a month from the Aldenaire crew: new departures, seasonal whale and puffin sightings, and early access to sunset sailings. No spam, ever.

I loved the girls running the tour. Both the Captain and the 1st mate were very knowledgeable about the movements of the whales and why they were doing what they were doing. It was quite fascinating ! The cold, fresh fruit was also very refreshing at the end. I plan on going again.

We had a wonderful time with X Boat Tours. We took the BIG ISLAND MANTA NIGHT SNORKEL 7pm tour on Saturday the 1st. The crew was great, they were knowledgeable, thoughtful and kind to everyone. The manta rays did their job too! I would absolutely return and would make this a must do when visiting the island.

What an experience!! From start to finish the crew was great. Riley, Garrett and Max (Gabe) were all amazing. They took care of us and made sure we saw Mantas. Definitely recommend them. The water was the warmest they said it's been all year but once you're in it for awhile, it does start to get chilly. Make sure to bring towels and a sweatshirt maybe to cover up after words.

Whale watching whale watching whale watching! I booked this tour after our tour with another company was canceled earlier in the week and I couldn't get ahold of them to reschedule. I found Adventure X for the day we were departing since our flight didn't depart until 9:30pm. Figured we'd make the most of the day. We booked the 1030 tour, which was perfect! Finding the boat was a challenge even with the instructions. Luckily we left early for that exact reason. The area we parked was right by the bathroom. Saw a sea turtle right at the dock and lots of other fun sea creatures in the rocks while waiting. This tour is next level. The boat is smaller and seats kind of cramped. Luckily there were only about 10 people on this tour so we could spread out. Took a minute to find whales, but one we did the Captain was all over it. Thought it was awesome to see an all woman crew too. Lord the snacks they provided were fantastic! We hadn't eaten breakfast, so this worked out awesome. They had fresh bear claws, pineapple, juices. They were really on top of things. As we were heading in a baby whale started breaching nonstop. They turn around for us so we could watch. Absolutely a 5 star experience!!

Author: Ashley S. | Date: 3/23/2025 | Source: yelp | Rating: 5 stars

Unforgettable Whale Watching and Snorkeling Experience with Adventure X Tours Adventure X Tours on the Big Island of Hawai'i provided the best whale-watching experience I've ever had--and I've been on plenty of tours here! From start to finish, the trip was magical. The snorkeling portion was incredible. We swam with turtles, admired vibrant tropical fish, and even spotted an elegant eagle ray. One of the crew members captured the entire experience on video, which we received via AirDrop to relive those amazing moments. The whale watching was equally breathtaking. We saw countless whales and were able to hear them through an underwater microphone. To make it even more special, the crew played whale songs from the previous year to attract activity--and it worked! We were treated to a spectacular display that felt almost otherworldly. The crew was professional, knowledgeable, and passionate, which made the whole experience unforgettable. If you're looking for a truly exceptional whale-watching and snorkeling tour, I can't recommend Adventure X Tours enough!
